Pet Life Insurance Explained

These days it's important to look after the health of our animals because the cost of visiting the vet can get very expensive. There are different types of pet insurance that one can choose from. Generally animals over a certain age (8 years) will have a higher premium to pay for cover. If your pet suffers from a chronic condition and you use up your year's worth of cover, you'll have to pay for the vets' bills. However, there is another type of cover called cover for life. This type of life cover will cover your pet's chronic condition, and will be covered by the insurer for life, as long as you stay with the same company.

Insurance for animals comes in a variety of different packages which you a can arrange to suit your needs, or your animal's needs. This means that you can choose from a basic and inexpensive cover to a much more comprehensive yet more costly type of cover too. It all depends on your needs. We know that it's important to be able to look after our pets, especially when disaster strikes, but what happens if it is an ongoing process? You need life long cover for your animal!

It's important for older animals to have cover as this is the time when they will generally spend more time at the vet's. If your animal is nearing its 8th year of life, it is advisable to apply for life cover at this stage. This will mean that your pet has insurance for the rest of his/her life, as long as you stay with the same insurance company.

Insurance companies are often more worried about insuring older animals due to the increased illness incidences and accidents and so on. Your monthly premium will depend on what type of animal you have and for example, the breed of cat or dog you have. You can insure most pets, from the obvious to rabbits and horses etc. You will be able to have two animals of the same type (eg two dogs), on the same policy, making the insurance cheaper. You won't be able to insure two different types of animals on the same policy though.

You owe it to your animals to provide them with the best that you can. If your animal is constantly sick with a chronic illness, it just makes sense to take out pet life insurance for peace of mind for the rest of your animal's life.
