Many of us when asked about disability Insurance, we respond we do not need it, I have heard only too often that a disability will not happen to me, or I am a healthy person. I will tell you about my story. On a cloudless summer day, I was approached by an Insurance salesperson asking me about disability Insurance, I too responded that I did not need it. I thought that I was young and nothing was going to happen to me. We said goodbye, turn our backs on each other to continue down our own paths of life. Not even a week later, I was helping my father in his business, where he had a factory bottling flavours. To my surprise there was a large crashing of bottles so I ran out to see what had happened, and within a few minutes there was a pool of blood, not realizing it came from me, I continued helping until, I noticed the blood was following me. I then proceeded to sit down and take a closer look, to my horror, I had severely cut open my foot. All these thoughts ran through my head wondering how I was going to work with this as I was unable to stand and my job was standing all day, then I thought about the disability insurance guy. loosing more blood I had to gather my thoughts together to attend to my now sick foot, I had things hanging out of my foot that I had no idea what they were. To make a long story interesting, I got 38 stitches, was handed crutches and sent on my way.
Thoughts racing through my mind, not able to work, no money, how to pay bills, food, the thoughts were endless, once again I had to contain my thoughts, to live in the moment and deal with what was happening and what was going to happen. I called the disability insurance guy, but it was too late, the accident had already happened.
Form that day forward I realized that we are never too young to have an accident whether it be at home at work, at play or while driving, we never know when it will happen to us, as we do not have a crystal ball to predict our future. I found a company that gave me disability insurance, because of their quick response I decided to change my career to become an insurance agent, with them, if I can educate a few people with my experience, then that will be a few more people that have protected their income, and are safe should something unexpected happen. The morel of this story is to show you the importance of protecting your income and please do not delay any longer, as you can see how important it is to have that disability insurance so that you are able to maintain your way of life, that you have created for yourself, before a disability or accident happens to you.
