When choosing caravan insurance cover it is important to remember that insurance providers offer different types of cover based on whether you have a static or touring caravan. This is important as of course the policies cover different aspects of your caravan.

Any caravan that is towed behind your vehicle is typically covered under a touring caravan insurance policy. Any caravan that remains fixed on such as a holiday site is insurance under the static caravan insurance policy.

Benefits of the insurance that are typically found in either policy

There are benefits that may typically be found in both the static and the touring insurance policy.

New for old insurance

If your static or touring caravan is below a certain age, which depends on the provider so compare, and it meets other requirements set out by the insurance provider, your policy typically pays out to replace your stolen or destroyed caravan with a brand new one. If you have a new caravan then you may want to ensure that this protection is included policy you choose to take out.

Public or third party liability insurance

This part of the insurance policy typically protects you against the possibility of you damaging a third parties property, vehicle or causing injury to a third party. For example, you may reverse your caravan and knock down a property wall. You may rent out your static caravan and the holidaymaker may fall on your caravan steps or decking and injure himself or herself. The policy typically pays out to cover any legal costs resulting from a claim against you.

How you may typically keep down the cost of your insurance

When considering caravan insurance there may be ways that you are able to make savings on your insurance premiums.

· Securing your caravan may lead to your premiums working out cheaper. If for instance you install an alarm on your static caravan and security lighting this may deter thieves;

· If you install an hitchlock on your touring caravan this may deter thieves from unhitching your touring caravan if you stop for a break whilst driving and leave your vehicle and car unattended;

· Becoming a member of a caravan owners club may help you to save on the cost of the insurance premiums

Any of the above measures may help you to reduce your caravan insurance cover premiums if you choose an insurance provider who offers discounts.
